What are the responsibilities and job description for the Slitter Operator position at Axis Pipe and Tube Inc?
Brief Summary: The Slitter Operator operates machine to slit continuous lengths of steel into strips of specified width and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Set up slitter knives to proper width and set up the slitting line for processing of material.
- Operate overhead crane with chains or C-hook to move coils, materials, and equipment.
- Operate entire slitting line in a safe and productive manner, observe flow and monitor quality of material through machine to detect irregular cutting and winding; make necessary adjustments to correct.
- Band coils and move coils to designated areas.
- Communicate and coordinate slitter helper activities.
- Basic housekeeping in general work area.
- Perform general maintenance and lubrication and repair on the slitter.
- Responsible for completing any assignments given by Supervisor, even those assignments not specifically listed in this job description.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, OR Equivalency Certificate, (GED (General Education Degree), etc.)
- Six months equivalent experience in related field OR, Proof of training in an area related to the job assignment
- English/Spanish Fluent Preferred
- Must be able to read and understand the Procedures and Work Instructions for the position held.
- Reasonable knowledge in hand-held measuring devices, micrometers, measuring tapes, go/no-go gauges, grinding, operation of thickness gauges and depth gauges
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand sufficiently to follow job and safety requirements.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
- The employee frequently is required to climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
