A smaller to midsize heavy civil infrastructure construction company based in Sacramento, California, seeks a skilled and hands-on Superintendent/Foreman to join our team. We specialize in delivering top-tier projects for Caltrans, including highways, bridges, and underground drainage/sewer systems. We’re looking for a working superintendent who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves, operate heavy equipment, and lead by example on the job site.
In this role, you’ll oversee daily operations, manage crews, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to the highest standards. Beyond leadership, you’ll actively contribute as an equipment operator when needed, bringing your technical expertise to every task. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and supervise all on-site construction activities, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Lead and direct field crews, subcontractors, and vendors while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
- Operate heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, bulldozers, loaders) as a working superintendent to support project needs.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and Caltrans representatives to meet contract specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor progress, resolve issues, and adapt to challenges to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Enforce OSHA and company safety policies, conducting regular site safety checks.
- Maintain detailed daily logs, reports, and documentation.
- Oversee construction and maintenance of highways, bridges, and underground drainage/sewer systems.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with expertise in highways, bridges, or underground utilities.
- Proven experience as a Superintendent, Foreman, or similar supervisory role.
- Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment and willingness to serve as a working superintendent.
- Familiarity with Caltrans standards and procedures (strongly preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical drawings.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with construction management tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project) is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (job site travel required).
