The Reinsurance Claims Specialist is a key contributor to the reinsurance team at AXIS.
Working in a globalized customer focused, professional reinsurance claims organization, you will support the Reinsurance Claims department goals of providing best in class internal and external client servicing through efficient and effective reinsurance claims handling and excellent quality customer service.
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
This role will support and collaborate with the claims function goals of providing quality and efficient claim service in addition to delivering internal and external superior customer service. The incumbent will be accountable for claims handling of assigned property and casualty accounts, assisting actuarial, underwriting and finance in understanding the losses and loss development. NOTE - This position will be a hybrid of remote/office.
Responsible for adherence to the claims processes and procedures with respect to payment, reporting, reserving and auditing necessary for assigned businesses and accounts. Assist Manager in understanding industry losses, loss development and liability trends and exposures that may affect the reserving, pricing, and underwriting strategy for specified lines of business and accounts.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensures all assigned claims are promptly and properly documented, reserved and processed within AXIS service standards
• Identifies and addresses with input from team manager any insurance and reinsurance coverage issues
• Communicates with manager and claims team about developing claim issues, large claims, emerging trends, unusual claim activity on an account and/or line of business they handle, confirms complex claim calculations regarding AADs, Basket retentions and potential accumulations
• Participates in Cedent audit process by scheduling audits for assigned accounts, determine audit file selection, participating in all audit kick off and wrap up calls, conducts assigned audits, prepares audit report in compliance with AXIS standards and communicate audit findings promptly to all appropriate parties
• Maintains an informational reporting structure with colleagues on the Claims team, as well as the Actuarial, Technical Accounting, and Underwriting teams relating to losses, including coverage issues, loss development, claim reserving and reinsurance reporting issues
• Identifies and communicates legal developments and changing laws potentially impacting claims handling on assigned business, seeks out information on industry wide losses and communicates any other topic which may have a material impact on AXIS business to team and other appropriate colleagues at AXIS
• Collaborates with the other members of the Claims team, monitors loss accumulations to ensure consistency and appropriate evaluation of potential impact of market wide losses
• Communicates with brokers/ceding companies on account and claim specific requests for information, cession issues and potential coverage issues
REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor's degree
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in primary and/or reinsurance claims
• Solid working knowledge of legal processes and laws applicable to Property and Casualty insurance claims
• Familiarity with the principles of reinsurance and reinsurance custom and practice
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong math skills
• Data analytics skills – ability to analyze complex data, reinsurance contracts and claim information
• Ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of tasks efficiently
• Proactively asks questions to ensure proper handling of claims
• Willingness to learn new systems and processes in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to collaborate with team members to ensure timely and efficient processing of claims

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS:
• Industry designations such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) or Associate in Claims (AIC) are a plus.
• Digitally savvy, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Power Point, and Power BI applications or similar
• Experience with Customer Relations
• Ability to navigate Reinsurance claims management software (SICS and or RDT).
• Experience with using SharePoint or other cloud-based file system
• Ability to stay organized with strong time management skills
• Flexibility to work within team and support multiple concurrent projects
• Effectively communicate progress through status updates

Role Factors:
In this role, you will typically be required to:
Travel to cedents and broker meetings in North America, travel to on site audits as requested.
Be in the New York office 3 days per week at a minimum.
