Job Title: UX Designer – Education Administrative Systems
Pay: $70–$80 per hour
Location: Albany, NY (Hybrid/Remote within the U.S. considered)
Contract Term: 2 years with a potential 1-year extension
About the Role:
The State University of New York (SUNY) is seeking a talented and creative UX Designer to develop intuitive, engaging user experiences for its education administrative systems. You’ll work closely with product managers, developers, and educational administrators to design solutions that meet the functional needs of SUNY campuses, streamline operations, and deliver user-centered innovation.
This position also collaborates with the SUNY Project Management Office (PMO), identifying process improvements and ensuring project alignment with strategic goals and tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design seamless UX solutions from concept through final hand-off (wireframes, prototypes, UI design).
- Conduct user research and usability testing to inform and validate design decisions.
- Create personas, journey maps, and interactive prototypes to represent user flows.
- Advocate for end-user experience and design consistency across platforms.
- Collaborate across departments, campuses, and external vendors to meet project requirements.
- Stay current with UX/UI trends, tools, and technologies.
Qualifications:
- 7 years of experience in UX design, with a focus on higher education, government, or corporate systems.
- Strong background in application development processes and digital transformation.
- Proven ability to advise senior leadership and align design strategies with business goals.
- Experience using data analytics to drive UX improvements.
- Expertise in tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision, or similar.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and project coordination skills.

- Primary work location: SUNY System Administration, H. Carl McCall Building, Albany, NY.
- Remote work arrangements possible (within U.S., subject to SUNY approval).
- Occasional travel to SUNY campuses may be required (non-reimbursed).
