DETAILS ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director of Enterprise Infrastructure & Cloud Services provides strategic leadership for the design, implementation, and operational excellence of enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, and data center services. This role ensures that technology foundation is secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with healthcare, research, and academic priorities.
As a key IT executive, the Director collaborates with leadership across the enterprise, IT teams, and clinical stakeholders in all areas of the medical center to develop and execute a modern infrastructure strategy, ensuring 24/7 service availability, optimal performance, and compliance with industry regulations (HIPAA, HITRUST, NIST).
This position is responsible for leading a high-performing team of engineers, cloud architects, and infrastructure specialists, overseeing multi-cloud platforms, enterprise networks, compute, storage, and mission-critical applications such as Epic. The Director also plays a critical role in cybersecurity strategy, ensuring infrastructure adheres to InfoSec policies, risk management frameworks, and enterprise security initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with a strong technical foundation, experienced in enterprise-scale IT transformation, cloud adoption, automation, and operational excellence in regulated environments.
Department Description
OSUWMC Enterprise Infrastructure & Cloud Services provides 24/7 operational support to ensure the availability, performance, and security of critical IT systems across the medical center. This team is responsible for:
• Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure: Managing multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) and optimizing cloud adoption strategies.
• Enterprise Networks & Compute: Designing and maintaining secure, high-performance networking, server, and storage solutions.
• Mission-Critical Systems: Supporting platforms like Epic, enterprise databases (Oracle, SQL), and high-performance computing for research.
• Observability & Automation: Driving AI-powered monitoring, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and automation to enhance efficiency.
• Security & Compliance: Implementing cybersecurity policies, risk management frameworks, and business continuity strategies.
By modernizing and securing IT foundation, the team ensures that healthcare, research, and academic operations run on a highly available, high-performance infrastructure
Key Responsibilities
50% Strategic Leadership & IT Modernization
• Develops and executes a comprehensive enterprise infrastructure and cloud strategy, ensuring alignment with OSUWMC’s mission, patient care excellence, and research priorities.
• Leads multi-cloud, hybrid cloud, and edge computing strategies, ensuring agility, cost efficiency, and scalability.
• Drives infrastructure automation (IaC), AI-driven monitoring, and self-healing IT operations to enhance system resilience and efficiency.
• Establishes long-term IT infrastructure roadmaps, ensuring future-proof architecture, compliance, and security best practices.
30% Enterprise Platform Engineering & Operations
• Oversees the architecture, performance, and security of OSUWMC’s enterprise platforms, including:
o Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) & hybrid-cloud strategy.
o Enterprise networks, compute, storage, and databases (Oracle, SQL, Epic infrastructure).
o Data center operations, ensuring high-availability and disaster recovery readiness.
• Implements AI-driven observability and automation frameworks to proactively monitor and optimize infrastructure performance.
• Ensures mission-critical application hosting, including Epic and high-performance computing resources for research.
10% Security, Compliance & Risk Management
• Implements and enforces enterprise security policies, governance frameworks, and compliance mandates in collaboration with the Information Security team.
• Ensures that infrastructure, cloud, and platform services comply with HIPAA, HITRUST, NIST, ISO 27001, and other regulatory requirements.
• Plays a critical role in shaping cybersecurity strategy, ensuring that infrastructure security aligns with InfoSec policies, risk mitigation frameworks, and enterprise risk management initiatives.
• Oversees the integration of security best practices into cloud, network, and infrastructure services, including zero-trust security models, identity management, and encryption standards.
• Ensures business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) strategies are aligned with enterprise risk management initiatives to protect critical healthcare and research operations.
10 %Team Leadership & Operational Excellence
• Leads a high-performing team of infrastructure engineers, cloud architects, and IT specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Manages budgeting, vendor strategy, and enterprise IT investments, ensuring cost efficiency and technology optimization.
• Champions ITIL best practices and service-level agreements (SLAs) to enhance service delivery and user experience.
• Builds strong partnerships with CIDTO and clinical leadership, ensuring technology investments support patient care, research, and operational goals.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Engineering, IT Management, or related field; 10 years of IT leadership experience, managing IT teams in a complex, enterprise-scale environment; strong background in infrastructure, cloud, and enterprise platforms; expertise in multi-cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) and hybrid cloud strategies; experience implementing automation, AI-driven monitoring, and self-healing IT operations; knowledge of cybersecurity, compliance, and regulatory frameworks (HIPAA, HITRUST, NIST, ISO 27001).
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT Management, or related field.
• Experience leading IT infrastructure in a healthcare, hospital, or life sciences environment.
• Certifications such as:
o AWS, Azure, or GCP Cloud Architect
o CISSP (Cybersecurity), ITIL (Service Management), TOGAF (Enterprise Architecture)
o PMP (Project Management) or SAFe (Agile Frameworks)
