Sr. Staff Engineer - Photonics
As a Photonics Engineer, you will take on the prototyping and initial system-level test of our next-generation hardware, bringing up advanced photonic features. You are an expert in high-speed testing, comfortable working on complex custom hardware and developing a control API. Essential Functions:
- Bring up new photonics features in custom opto-electronic hardware
- Perform tests, improve test procedures and analyze data to enable improvements in device performance and product yield
- Work closely with teams developing laser, package, photonic, and electronic circuits to ensure product success
- Improve data infrastructure: extend code base for validation, analysis, and initialization
- Develop and validate compact models and system link-model
Basic Qualifications:
- MS degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 5 years (if MS) or 2 years (if Ph.D.) of industry experience developing electro-optic systems
- Hands-on experience testing high-speed optical links
- Familiar with communications testing instruments: bit-error-rate tester, DCA, polarization controller, spectrum analyzer, etc.
- Experience taking an opto-electronic product to market: design, debug and validation
- Experience with Design Validation Testing and handoff to manufacturing
- Proficiency with Python
- Understanding of photonic devices: waveguides, couplers, photodetectors, electro-optic modulators, micro-ring resonators
- Experience with statistical analysis of test data, DOE methods
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience bringing up custom electronic hardware
- Experience developing and validating link and optical system models
- Familiar with feedback control
- Familiarity with optical transceiver principles, transmission formats, and industry trends
- Experience with RF systems and measurements
- Familiar with packaging of electro-optical fiber-optic modules
- Familiar with databases and automating data pipelines
- Familiar with electro-optic reliability modeling and testing
- Experience working with cross-functional teams (firmware, hardware, packaging)
Salary range: $170,000 - $200,000
