What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anticipated Special Education Teacher (2025-2026) position at Ayer Shirley Regional Middle School?
The Adaptive Learning Center services students whose primary disability may include cognitive disabilities, physical challenges, complex medical needs, multiple disabilities, and/or communication needs that require a high level of individualization and support. Teaching approaches include: incidental/naturalistic instruction, visual supports, total communication approaches, structured classroom environments/routines, frequent opportunities to learn skills, and movement and/or sensory regulation strategies.
- Design, supervise, implement, maintain, and evaluate a student’s IEP
- Plan and execute developmentally appropriate lessons, make accommodations and modifications to the general curriculum as needed.
- Participate in the team meeting process and eligibility process (e.g., evaluating students for eligibility, conducting academic testing, conducting diagnostic testing, reporting out at team meetings, attending team meetings, etc.)
- Regularly communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
- Collaborate with peers and participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and stay updated on educational best practices.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the building administration
