What You’ll Do
Strategic Leadership & Practice Oversight
- Lead Ayoroa Simmons’ roadway design practice, setting its strategic direction and ensuring technical excellence.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing team of engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Act as the decision-maker on high-profile DOT roadway projects, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and sustainability goals.
- Implement best practices to drive efficiency, quality, and cutting-edge innovation in roadway design.
Project Management & Technical Execution
- Oversee the full project lifecycle, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of complex highways, interchanges, and urban street networks.
- Act as the technical lead for major roadway design projects, using MicroStation, GEOPAK, OpenRoads, and AutoCAD Civil 3D for modeling.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews, ensuring compliance with DOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and FHWA regulations.
- Proactively manage project scope, budgets, and schedules, mitigating risks before they become challenges.
Client & Business Development
- Serve as the primary point of contact for DOT agencies, municipalities, and private sector partners, ensuring client satisfaction and long-term relationships.
- Drive business growth by identifying new project opportunities, leading proposal development, and securing new contracts.
- Represent the firm at industry events and professional organizations (ACEC, ASCE, ITE, TRB), positioning us as a leader in transportation innovation.
- Stay ahead of the curve by integrating emerging technologies, remote sensing, BIM, digital twin, and GIS products.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or a related field).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (required).
- Ten or more years of experience in roadway design, DOT project leadership, and team management.
- Proven track record of mentoring, leading teams, and overseeing technical staff.
- Expertise in MicroStation, GEOPAK, OpenRoads, or AutoCAD Civil 3D for roadway modeling.
- Strong understanding of DOT design standards, AASHTO guidelines, and FHWA regulations.
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and resources.
- Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to drive innovation, think strategically, and make data-driven decisions.
- Client management and business development experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or Business Administration.
- Experience with BIM, hydraulic modeling, and traffic simulation tools.
- Active participation in ASCE, ITE, TRB, or similar organizations.
- Experience in entrepreneurial ventures, business development, or strategic planning.
