Dermatology Medical Assistant
A dermatology medical assistant is responsible for supporting a dermatologist by performing administrative tasks like scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and assisting with clinical procedures such as taking patient histories, vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and helping with minor skin biopsies, all within the scope of their training and under the supervision of a physician; they may also educate patients on skin care practices and treatment plans.
Key responsibilities of a dermatology medical assistant:
Patient care:
Taking patient medical histories and documenting details in electronic medical records
Recording vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse)
Preparing patients for examinations and procedures by explaining steps and ensuring proper draping
Assisting with skin examinations, including lesion identification and measurements
Performing minor procedures like skin biopsies under physician supervision
Applying topical medications as directed by the dermatologist
Administrative tasks:
Scheduling patient appointments and managing appointment calendars
Answering phone calls and managing patient inquiries
Verifying insurance benefits and processing patient payments
Maintaining patient records and updating medical information
Preparing and maintaining exam rooms with necessary supplies
Clinical support:
Preparing and labeling specimens for laboratory testing
Assisting with minor surgical procedures, including prepping the surgical site and providing instruments
Providing patient education on skin care routines and treatment options

Required skills and qualifications:
