Overview
Assist craft workers with various steps in the fabrication process including surface preparation, cutting of pieces, and material handling. Help maintain the cleanliness and safety of the shop. This role is ideal for those who enjoy working with their hands and are interested in pursuing a career in pipe fabrication.
Our YA's typically work full time over the summer and then transition to 10-20 hours per week when school resumes in the fall. Per Wisconsin Youth Apprentice and union guidelines, youth apprentices are not able to weld on production items.
Responsibilities
- Work with Journeyman and other craft professionals to construct fabrications. Specific projects and workload vary.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely & effectively to cut and shape pipes.
- Review specifications or blueprints and set up and/or dismantle workstations.
- Perform duties contributing to safe, efficient, shop operations such as sweeping, disposing of waste, and organizing materials and tools.
- Load and unload vehicles.
Qualifications
- Minimum of junior standing at a high school participating in the Wisconsin Youth Apprentice Program.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to focus within a fast-paced shop environment.
- Strong basic math skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
- Able to comprehend and safely execute instructions given orally or in writing.
- A proactive attitude with a strong desire to explore a career in the fabrication industry.
