The AZEK Company’s intern/co-op program will provide you with hands-on experience in research and development, including lab testing and manufacturing trials, as well as exposure to the fascinating world of sustainable outdoor building products.
This is a paid internship where you will report directly to an experienced R&D scientist / engineer. Throughout your time with The AZEK Company, you can expect to participate in meaningful project work and professional learning opportunities that will help you grow as an engineer / scientist and as a future professional.
Location: Wilmington, OH
Time Commitment & Expectations:
- AZEK’s spring Intern program runs from January 2nd, 2025, to May 30th, 2025, with the possibility of extending into summer months
- Program runs for 40 hours per week, excluding unpaid holidays
- A flexible work schedule is required to accommodate resource and equipment availability
Position Summary: Assist the R&D team in the development of new and improved materials for polymer-based decking products, utilizing your knowledge of polymer processing, materials science, and laboratory techniques.
What you can expect:
- A fast-moving team of scientists, engineers, and technicians with a diverse collection of knowledge and experience.
- Sense of ownership for your projects and ability to make it yours.
- A mix of ~30% desk work and ~70% lab work / plant trials.
What you’ll learn:
- Design of experiments to optimize product performance properties.
- Preparation and evaluation of materials through various lab methodologies, including compounding, rheology, extrusion, and analytical testing.
- Analysis of lab data to interpret the meaning of results as applied to production scale processing and field performance of materials in practical applications.
- By being on the teams, will learn about the sustainability of PVC and how The AZEK Company utilizes the country’s recycle streams to make long-lasting products.
Ideal Student:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student studying Plastics, Polymer, Chemical, or Materials Engineering at an accredited college or university.
- High academic standing (Preferred GPA – 3.0 )
- Successful completion of a minimum of 60 credit hours
- Able to participate in at least 90% of the program January – May
- Willing to relocate to a geographic location with an AZEK facility, if needed, upon graduation.
Students must be eligible to work in the U.S. without immigration sponsorship.
