Job Description
This position will assist senior design personnel in developing and completing designs and contract documents for various roadways. Design municipal and state projects for streets/highways/freeways involving roadway, drainage, utilities, and traffic engineering. Ability to function as a project engineer and understand all aspects of design and plan production. Preparation and checking of design calculations, quantities, cost estimates, and project plans. Additional duties may include field assessment of existing roadway and pedestrian facilities.
Self-motivated, technically proficient, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and is team-oriented. Travel periodically within Arizona and neighboring states and be physically capable of performing fieldwork.
Primary Job Duties:
- Work on a team with other project engineers on the detailed design of urban and rural roadway projects
- Take responsibility for alignment and profile, geometrics, development of plans, special provisions and construction estimates
- Provide assistance with the creation and submission of technical reports, specifications, and calculations
- Assist with utility coordination in order to provide clearance prior to submittal of final design documents
- Perform other duties as needed
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Holds an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate or able to obtain in 6 months of hire
- Minimum experience: entry level
- Experience using AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Project Wise experience is a plus
- OpenRoads and Civil 3D experience a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must
- Must have solid skills in the following areas: Planning and scheduling, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making
- Have familiarity with roadway design guidelines and codes
- Experience with design calculations, preparation of quantities and cost estimates, preparation of special provisions, and preparation of project plans is desired
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
