AZTEC is currently seeking resumes from qualified Archaeological Technicians for an excavation up near Payson, AZ.

Job Description :

The role will be to assist with an excavation project approximately 2 hours north of metropolitan Phoenix for AZTEC's Cultural Resource Group. Potential opportunity to transition to full-time once project has been completed.

Primary Duties :

Assist with data recovery
Apply standardized field methods and complete field forms thoroughly and accurately
Assist with lab work
Communicate effectively and work closely with fellow employees

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills) :

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or closely related field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Completion of academic-sponsored field school

A minimum of one year of experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM)

Previous experience performing archaeological excavation

Ability to perform fieldwork in adverse conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures, arid environments, dense vegetation) and carry up to 25 pounds of equipment

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to work both independently or as part of a team; strong initiative

Ability and willingness to travel – project is outside Phoenix metropolitan area.

Reliable transportation

Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier

Experience collecting field data using ESRI software is preferred

Experience with the respectful treatment and housing of ancestral remains.

Working Conditions and Environment :

Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project and be able to promote a positive team environment. Working knowledge of dealing with a diverse population while using tact, diplomacy, and respect.
