Job Description
The Architectural History Group Manager will be responsible for the Architectural History Program across each of AZTEC’s locations to help with its overall success and performance. The individual will assist in strategic planning, guiding business development, and overall management. The individual will also assist other Managers with any questions, concerns, training needs, staffing (new hires) or resource allocations or temporary staff reassignments when projects require and will work with them to ensure projects are being managed in accordance with budgets and schedules. This position is key to ensuring that AZTEC maintains its quality deliverables combined with a technically sound approach and, ultimately, that we deliver quality products on time to our clients. The Architectural History Group Manager will also serve as a subject matter expert and / or PI for architectural history, historic preservation, and historic archaeology projects as needed and will take on any overflow of work between teams or offices as workloads demand. This position is critical to further develop and expand AZTEC’s Cultural Resources Management services program throughout our office locations.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provide leadership
- Train and mentor cultural resources staff in topics including NRHP eligibility, implementation of research designs, and built environment recording protocols
- Develop proposals and cost estimates
- Foster and maintain good working relationships with municipal, state, and federal agency staff and clients
- Take initiative, resolve problems, and implement improved procedures to ensure that tasks are completed effectively
- Coordinate and obtain permitting and adhere to agency guidelines / policies
- Remain current with agency protocols for conducting historic preservation work
- Manage projects when necessary, including staff, fieldwork, and deliverables, within schedule and budget constraints
- Oversee and when necessary, participate in all aspects of historic architecture and archaeological survey, resource documentation, GPS mapping, testing and data recovery, monitoring, analyses, report writing, and administrative duties
- Serve as primary author as needed on technical reports, research designs, treatment plans, and other technical documents
- Help to build short and long-term goals for employees and conduct annual reviews
- Work with the Environmental Practice Lead, Regional Cultural Resources Lead, and other Regional Environmental Managers to develop strategic goals for the overall cultural resources group.
- Assist the Environmental Practice Lead and Regional Cultural Resources Lead in establishing yearly business development and financial goals for Cultural Resources services
