What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager | Evansville, IN | Salary up to $93k (BOE) position at Azteca Milling?
Responsible for staff coordination of the local Safety and Health programs and for staff services within the organization. Directly responsible for food safety and quality by ensuring, equipment and facilities, training and education of all employees, reviewing and auditing performance, and driving continuous improvement.
- Implement and maintain a continuing educational and safety promotional program for supervisors and employees. Coordinate development of safety educational materials. Prepare and schedule training sessions of all Azteca Milling Company personnel.
- Advise management regarding the necessary safety and health information and new regulatory requirements. Be aware of state and federal laws, directives, standards, and codes dealing with employee safety and health.
- Assist in the identification of potential health and physical hazards with the aid of medical providers, loss control representatives, and safety services. Also, perform regular facility inspections to identify potential hazards.
- Prepare and maintain statistical reports on safety performance and activities for distribution to management.
- Review all incident/accident investigation reports. Monitor workers’ compensation cases to assist in rapid closure of all claims.
- Consult with plant managers and purchasing department on plans regarding proposed changes in processes, equipment, and methods regarding safety and health standards.
- Coordinate requirements for insurance coverage for outside contractor services.
- Select and identify the use of personal protective equipment.
- Act as liaison between insurance carriers, state and federal agencies, and emergency services regarding safety and health.
- Prepare annual Safety Department budget and submit same to Senior Safety Manager for approval.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, risk management, loss control, or business administration related field required. Minimum of 5 years of safety experience including experience managing several locations. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience may be considered for the above.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of OSHA and CalOSHA regulations.
- Knowledge of EPA rules and regulations concerning health and safety, environmental, public water systems, storm water discharge, and solid waste disposal.
- Knowledge of safety, ADA, workers’ compensation laws.
- Experience conducting accident investigations.
- Be able to walk long distances and to be on his/her feet for long periods of time.
- Able to work in dusty, noisy, hot, cold, and small areas.
- Bilingual English and Spanish (Preferred).
