What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director, Human Resources & Compensation position at Azul?

We’re looking for a seasoned HR leader who will contribute their excellent consulting and coaching skills and deep expertise in compensation, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, and general HR operations to continue our mission to build a world-class HR function and practices that align with our values.
As a Senior Director in HR, you will work hand-in-glove with the VP of HR to shape our strategy and as a strategic business partner to the leadership team and partner with all members of the HR team on execution. Depending on our phase of growth, you may work across all functions globally or you may be partnered with specific leaders, organizations or geographies. As our first leader of Compensation, you’ll ensure that our programs support the goals of Azul and provide for fair and equitable compensation for our people.
Your experience working within fast-paced - preferably global - organizations will be essential as we continue to expand our global footprint.
\n- Strategic HR Leadership: Partner with executives and leadership teams to shape HR strategies that align with business goals, drive performance, engagement, and retention across global teams – and still be capable of hands-on delivery against those goals.
- Compensation: Lead the development, implementation, and management of competitive compensation programs and structures, including base salary, bonus programs, equity offerings, and other incentive plans. Ensure our compensation practices are aligned with our values and industry standards, and are competitive, legally compliant and equitable across all regions.
- Employee Relations: Act as a trusted advisor for resolving complex employee relations issues, ensuring fair and consistent application of company policies, and fostering a culture of open communication and trust. Provide guidance to managers on conflict resolution, performance improvement, and corrective actions.
- Global HR: While extensive international experience is strongly preferred but not required, your ability to build that expertise and navigate HR challenges across multiple geographies and business cultures will be an asset. Support HR initiatives that are appropriate and scale across regions, and ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations.
- Talent Management & Organizational Development: Lead initiatives to build leadership capabilities, staff skill and engagement programs, and foster a culture of continuous learning. Implement performance management strategies that drive employee growth and organizational effectiveness.
- HR Operations & Compliance: Partner with other HR team members to ensure efficiency and compliance with company policies and employment laws across regions. Stay informed of changes in labor legislation and adjust policies and practices as needed.
- Change Management & Culture: Champion change management initiatives to support business transformation while sustaining our values of Maniacal Customer Success, Innovation & Excellence, Initiative & Courage, Impact & Influence, Integrity & Transparency and Diversity, Inclusion & Teamwork. - There will be regular opportunities to be involved in and/or other HR initiatives as assigned that both leverage and build your skills and experience. A critical success factor will be your ability to partner and work collaboratively with other members of the global HR and Operations teams and the full range of HR’s stakeholders and internal customers.
- 10-15 years of experience in full-cycle Human Resources with a strong generalist background and expertise in compensation and employee relations.
- Proven experience in HR leadership, ideally within a growing technology or software company in a multi-country environment.
- In-depth knowledge of compensation design and strategy, including benchmarking, salary structures, and incentive plans. Ability to identify and implement key vendors and resources in a cost-effective, scalable manner, especially for survey vendors and compensation tools.
- Strong expertise in employee relations and conflict resolution with a deep understanding of labor laws and regulations. Advanced coaching, consulting, relationship-building, collaboration and influencing skills are essential.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Able to work effectively with all members of the global HR team and all other functions and levels within the organization, up to and including senior executives.
- International HR experience is strongly preferred but not required; however, you must have the ability to learn and adapt quickly to manage HR matters and programs across multiple regions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and drive HR initiatives that align with business goals.
- A strategic mindset paired with a hands-on, tactical approach to solving complex HR challenges.
- The ability to work well with data to tell the HR and Azul story and use data and metrics to evaluate the ROI of HR programs.
- A demonstrated operational ability to develop and enhance processes, programs and tools to achieve HR and business goals and deliver a best-in-class employee experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field or the equivalent in a combination of education and expedience; an advanced degree or HR certifications are a plus. A demonstrated focus on continual learning.
