Summary
Estimators are the tip of the spear here at B&D. Their primary focus is set on accurately forecasting the cost, size, and duration of a project with expertise in reading, math, and strategic planning. The Estimator develops the cost information that is needed to make informed decisions on the viability of a proposed new project. The Estimator provides market competitive estimates that align with organizational goals and objectives.
As an Entry-Level Estimator, you will develop the skills needed to manage specialized work efficiently, with confidence and competence. The position requires above-average attention to details and strong commitment to completing tasks on time. A somewhat faster-than-average pace will be the norm for this position. Detailed and specialized work is the major focus. The position will generally be task-oriented and requires someone with a conservative, careful, and cautious approach to work.

Responsibilities
· Responsible for maintaining the organization of plan and specification estimating activities in a way that maximizes the total profitability of the entire company
· Learn, understand and meet the strategic and operational goals in the department through collaboration with the Leadership Team
· Develop the skills to supply data and information to other departments to maximize effectiveness
· Accurately review plans, specifications, scopes and determine usage of correct vendor and subcontractors required
· Learn to create material and quote requests to utilize in project estimate
· Practice effective bid leveling by reviewing subcontractor/vendor selection with Leadership Team as needed to ensure scope coverage for estimates
· Assist in the pricing and presentation of change proposals
· Learn how relationships with preconstruction staff and decision makers of current and prospective customers (owners and general contractors) factors into project estimates
· Regularly consult with Leadership Team during the beginning stage of individual assignments to ensure strategies and processes are being followed
· Acquire and implement efficient communication methods to communicate with the Leadership Team during the bidding phase to ensure timely completion of estimates
· Update changes to material and labor factors during bid reviews
· Communicate with appropriate management regarding potential unknown variables in an efficient manner
· Physical demands include long hours sitting, using a computer, standing, pulling/pushing, walking
· Job requires advanced computer proficiency and critical thinking abilities and the strong desire and ability to learn new skills

Education and Experience
· Associate’s degree in business or construction
· Experience in a construction or office work environment desired
· Relevant work experience or the active pursuit of education may substitute for the degree
