This position will perform multiple tasks related to production and sanitation with the intent to primarily work in production and when needed also perform tasks related to sanitation.
This position contains several duties throughout the packing facility, Stacking, lifting, dumping raw materials, picking up raw materials from the floor, cleaning, working in wet areas for a long period, packing, and/or sorting. Tasks and duties include loading products, monitoring and manipulating materials at various stages of processing; filling various-sized containers; and preparing products for shipment.
Work as part of the sanitation cleaning crew whose duties are to clean and sanitize processing equipment and processing areas of the plant, to meet Quality Control and Bacterial Standards delineated within Growers Express Safety and Quality Management system. Members of the Sanitation crew are required to completely clean and sanitize the plant quickly and efficiently during relatively short periods between the plant's normal production shifts, which typically requires that the sanitation worker work during late evenings/night/early morning shifts (specific work shift to be determined by the supervisor), and some overtime (weekends, days, evenings). The sanitation worker will also be working around large processing equipment in which chemicals will be used to complete the sanitation process. The sanitation worker must be able to work as a team along with other members of the crew, under stressful conditions, and be flexible and willing to perform varying tasks per the Sanitation Lead’s instructions and following all safety guidelines mandated by the employer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Separate and stack packed boxes.
- Set up and prepare pallets to stack packed boxes on.
- Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually or using pallet jack.
- Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected.
- Notify supervisors or operators of any malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.
- Immediately notify the supervisor of any process deviations from the specification or any contamination of the product.
- Maintain a clean work area, free of safety hazards
- Pick up raw materials, and finish product from the floor.
- Dump raw materials.
- Cooperate with supervisors and managers and ensure compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Safety policies.
- Follow PPE practice when handling chemicals and using compressed air if applicable.
- Perform Good Sanitation Practices (GSPs) when handling and working with or around equipment.
- Ensure all chemicals are used at proper concentrations by analysis of cleaner strengths on CIP 75 and sanitizers used during the sanitation process in a safe manner
- Report equipment that is damaged, shows wear or needs replacement to a Supervisor or Team Leader.
- Follow all company SSOPs to clean and sanitize processing equipment and processing facilities.
- Prevent cross-contamination of products, work-in-progress, food contact surfaces, and food contact packaging during sanitation procedures.
- Follow FSQ requirements such as GMPs and other daily job-specific duties to support QRMP.
- Complete all sanitation and required SQF documentation.
- Maintain all sanitation-related equipment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma/GED preferred but not required.
- Previous experience performing sanitation work is not required but preferred.
- Read and follow detailed chemical label instructions for sanitation programs and SOPs.
- Have good communication skills (listening, speaking, writing).
- Use sound judgment and decision-making.
- Use logic and reasoning while performing tasks.
- Manage work time to effectively accomplish tasks and maintain pace with workflow and deadlines.
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with coworkers.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently when needed as part of a team.
ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as standing/walking, crouching, stooping, twisting, balancing, leg/foot use, reaching, overhead extension, handling, pushing/pulling, and climbing.
- Lifting and handling of materials and packed boxes.
- Working indoors in a fast-paced setting.
- Working in constant cold temperatures - 34°F
- The environment has constant noise, forklift and electric pallet jack activity, wet/damp floors, and moving belts.
- Attention to keeping foreign objects off belts is required safety factors
- Lift to 50 lbs. throughout the day
- Pushing and pulling pallet jacks.
- The work environment is wet
- Working exposed to cleaning chemicals
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
- Proper PPE (hair restraints, bump cap, safety eye protection, chemical resistant gloves, rubber boots, water repellant jacket and overalls, face shield).
