Job Overview :
Product Data Governance department is responsible for structuring, entering, and managing the quality of product data at B&H. The Product Data Steward is responsible for the structuring and managing piece of the Product Data Governance puzzle, and they are an expert in their field who has a clear grasp on the fundamentals of data management and utilization. They use information accumulated from B&H’s decades of online information gathering alongside their own product knowledge and that of other B&H departments to normalize existing specifications and build and maintain templates for others to fill, working with relevant teams in the process to ensure utility and usability.
From there, they use internal tools and database management practices (i.e. SQL) to manipulate those specifications in ways that can be used by other teams for their own purposes. The PDS ensures that product data becomes and remains clean, consistent, and functional.
Essential Responsibilities :
Cleans unstructured specification information into normalized values for use as data.
Builds and maintains structured “clean specifications” and information entry templates for categories included in their product domain.
Stays up to date with industry trends for their product domain and proactively adjusts and improves workflows to account for changes.
Collaborates with internal departments to utilize specification data for alternate purposes via internal tools and SQL queries.
Additional Responsibilities :
Audits existing product information from internal departments for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to B&H style to maintain data quality.
Maintaining category “Key Specs” and ensuring data remains useful as product lines change and grow.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Deep knowledge of at least one of B&H’s top-level categories (Photo, Video, Audio, etc.)
Strong research skills and ability to find trustworthy information.
Understanding of data standards and definitions with a focus on atomic structure.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external partners.
Intermediate Proficiency with Excel (Pivot Tables, LOOKUPs, etc.).
Intermediate SQL (specifically its transformational capabilities).
Preferred Education, Experience and Licenses :
3 Years professional or 5 years amateur experience with top-level category
2 Years in Data Management
