What are the responsibilities and job description for the CATV Coax Splicer position at B&M Ashman?
Primary responsibilities include ability to splice/test/repair cables/wires in both indoor and outdoor settings, read, create and maintain splicing diagrams, Improve upon the performance ,functionality, reliability, or quality of existing products or trade processes; maintain activities surrounding the assigned work site(s), and taking splicing field notes.
Responsibilities:
- Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of cable
- Develop new, improved, or technologically advanced products or trade processes
- Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
- Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
- Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
- Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed (potentially climb poles)
- Field train and control/oversee the work of other Splicer’s when necessary.
- Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas built and track daily production
- Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.
- Frequently work independently
- Other splicing related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams
- Ability to distinguish colors
- Ability to design, construct and develop plant systems
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background check, motor vehicle check, and drug test
- Possess a valid driver’s license (class "C" minimum) or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position (possibly class "B" - light commercial)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified pole climber or capable of demonstrating proficiency as a pole climber
- OSP telecommunication construction experience; cable experience
- Experience in splicing, balancing, and documenting CATV systems
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance
- Must be able to work nights and weekends, if necessary
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions
