Substation Manager
Location: Charlotte, NC - Hybrid

We’re seeking a seasoned leader to take on the Substation Manager role for our Charlotte office. This senior management position offers the opportunity to lead, grow, and shape the future of our Charlotte operations while driving impactful client relationships and business development initiatives.
Position Overview:
As the Senior Office Manager, you’ll oversee the day-to-day operations of our Charlotte office, including managing a talented team of engineers and designers, resolving technical and project-related challenges, and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction. You’ll also play a vital role in marketing our engineering services and developing new business within the investor-owned, municipal, and electric cooperative utility markets. Reporting directly to the Vice President, this role offers both strategic and operational leadership opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Engage and mentor employees to foster growth and professional development.
- Conduct performance reviews, handle hiring decisions, and manage team workflows.
- Oversee project execution, ensuring quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
- Technical and Operational Oversight:
- Provide technical review of project scopes, budgets, and proposals.
- Prepare specifications for bids, including equipment, labor, and relay specifications.
- Perform quality control reviews for substation protection and control designs, relay settings, and construction design packages.
- Client and Business Development:
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, resolving project challenges effectively.
- Actively market engineering services and develop new business opportunities.
- Stay informed on trends driving the utility industry and leverage them to expand our business.
- Strategic Planning and Resource Management:
- Monitor office resource levels, forecast staffing needs, and manage backlog planning.
- Facilitate collaboration among internal and external teams to resolve design conflicts.
- Support the company’s strategic vision by promoting cross-functional business solutions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (required).
- Master’s degree in Engineering Management, MBA, or PMP certification (preferred).
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to obtain additional state licenses.
- 7 years of experience in substation and relaying design.
- 5 years in engineering consulting and 5 years of people management experience.
- Strong business networking and client relationship skills.
- Competence in evaluating engineering solutions and improving processes.
- Proficiency in engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, CymTCC, SEL Software, and Omicron Testing Universe.
- Experience with project management software and MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Construction support experience is a plus.
