Position Requirements & Work Location

Work Location: WMATA premises – Alexandria, Virginia, or New Carrollton, Maryland
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Preferred Qualifications

SPECIFICATION WRITER
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, revise, and maintain WMATA technical specifications and the WMATA Manual of Design Criteria;
- Develop technical documents to support design, construction, contracts, and operations processes for capital and non-capital projects;
- Prepare policy and procedure documentation;
- Maintain the most up-to-date versions of WMATA technical standards in an orderly manner;
- Conduct timely technical reviews of draft documents; and
- Perform additional assignments as directed by the WMATA Task Manager.
Background and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or a related field;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in preparing technical specifications and documents for rail transit projects;
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments within a transit authority;
- Extensive experience with all Microsoft Office applications;
- Ability to write clearly and professionally;
- Ability to produce communications quickly and efficiently; and
- General knowledge of rail transit agencies' design standards for architecture, engineering and construction, as well as safety and security regulations such as fixed-rail clearances, level-boarding, and OSHA policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with WMATA standard processes and procedures
