Overview

The Area Coordinator, Community Standards, provides front-line leadership and direction to a residence area housing with an estimated 250 residents. Specifically responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive residence education program ensuring that a particular residential area is safe, inclusive, and developmental living environments; serving as a Student Accountability Officer, a secondary advisor to student representatives on the College’s Hearing Board, and an investigator in organizational and gender-based misconduct incidents; and developing and implementing programs, services, and operations that advance the mission of the Office of Community Standards and promote the Community Code of Student Conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the undergraduate Resident Assistant (RA) and Head Resident Assistant (HRA) staff which includes guidance with residential programming, community building, intentional learning opportunities, and co-facilitation of weekly staff meetings.
  • Conducts regular community walk-throughs and effectively partners with the Facilities Services department.
  • Consult regularly with the professional staff in both Residence Life and Community Standards.
  • Provides support and resources to students experiencing transition, personal, or mental health challenges; assists students in managing roommate relationships, including mediations and expectation setting; supports students in the resolution of various issues, including addressing community standards violations and making appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Serves as primary advisor to 5-10 undergraduate clubs and organizations and/or leadership cohort.
  • Manages move-in, move-out, and room change processes for residential area; coordinates and monitors student billing for residence hall and community damages for their assigned area; assists with health and safety inspections; and management of the data entered into the damage billing system.
  • Serves as an administrative hearing officer for non-academic cases - leading up to and including potential status changing cases (i.e., loss of housing and/or suspension).
  • Serves as a secondary advisor to the Hearing Board for cases that require community input. This includes but is not limited to coordinating the logistics of the hearing, managing the pre-hearing with the complainant/respondent, working with witnesses, and advising the Hearing Board in the determination of a responsibility and sanctions, if applicable.
  • Serves as a co-investigator in gender-based misconduct cases as appropriate; participate in annual, gender-based misconduct training
  • Utilizes student conduct software program (Maxient) for the purposes of case management and assessment.
  • Assists Community Standards with the recruitment, selection, and development of the members of the Babson College Hearing Board (faculty, students, and staff), including but not limited to co-facilitating annual trainings and ongoing in-service presentations for the professional development of members.
  • Partners with Assistant Director to ensure that hearings are conducted in accordance with respective student and student organizational conduct procedures by serving as an advisor to such bodies, advising the chair regarding complex issues at hearings, clarifying conduct procedures, interpreting College policies as necessary, and serving as a Hearing Adviser when deemed necessary.
  • Assists in the training of student leaders across campus.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with Resident Assistants on Community Standards related issues including incident report writing, policy enforcement, restorative justice practices, and questions regarding the Community Code of Student Conduct.
  • Assists with sanction compliance and file retention.
  • Aids in the review and editing process of the College’s policies and resolution methods annually by coordinating research and benchmarking other institutions.
  • Supports other projects related to community standards that may arise throughout the year including, but not limited to, facilitation of alternative resolutions.
  • Serves as a member of the crisis team as an Administrator On-call member; serve on-call a minimum of 10 weeks an academic year and respond at any time if called to assist in any campus crisis response. Respond to and/or assist with student and campus emergencies/crises; work closely with Dean On-call to support recommended actions; work with local hospital staff to assess students’ status; conduct necessary follow-up with Public Safety, local agencies, and/or parents and staff as needed; assist with implementation of emergency response plans and actions.
  • Attends weekly Residence Life staff meetings; Student Affairs divisional meetings; hearing officer meetings; on-call meetings; and any other meeting pertinent to the position and/or position responsibilities.
  • Participates in campus wide events and initiatives.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Must have at least 1-3 years of related experience preferably in higher education, student affairs, or law.
  • Ability to become proficient in and utilize student conduct software program (Maxient) for the purpose of adjudicating cases and assessment.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to utilize alternative resolutions and restorative justice efforts where appropriate.
  • Must have knowledge of student development theory, program development, management, and evaluation.
  • Must have strong knowledge and command of college safety policies, student conduct processes, and related legal considerations in student affairs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive student body, faculty, staff, and other constituents.
  • Must have experience with project and program management and evaluation skills; as well as sound financial and budget management skills.
  • Demonstrated comfort in public speaking and presenting; excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, staff, parents and alumni. Special emphasis in the following areas: Public Safety, Office of Academic Services, Legal Counsel, Admissions, Title IX, and Alumni and Friends Network.
  • Must have a willingness to embrace ideas and changes created by all community members.

  • Ability to anticipate and effectively handle change; demonstrates willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
  • Must have strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint); email communication, database management, and social media.
  • Ability to maintain a working knowledge of legal/state mandates and guidance from the Department of Education/Office of Civil Rights.

How And Where You Will Work

  • This is a 12-month, full-time, live-in position; required to live in provided on-campus furnished housing.
  • Serves as a member of the administrator on-call staff with evening and weekend responsibilities.

Additional Skills You May Have

  • Prefer advanced degree or working toward an advanced degree (JD/MS/MEd).
  • Experience with alternative resolution methods.
