What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Skating Instructor position at Babson College?
Job Summary: Assists with providing ice skating instruction to students as young as 3 years old using the Learn to Skate USA program, effectively instructing students in all elements of class level
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists senior coaching staff with class management and skating instruction
- Maintains a positive, creative, upbeat class environment using age-appropriate games and props to keep students moving and engaged
- Encourages appropriate behavior of students with an emphasis on safety and community/team building
- Actively participates in instruction and mentorship from senior coaching staff
- Delivers outstanding customer service to skaters and guests in the rink
- Serves as an expert on skate school programs and arena offerings.
- Assists with preparation prior to class start time, including tying skates, assisting with hockey equipment and setting up lesson areas
- Ensures proper storage and maintenance of program materials and equipment
- Assumes additional responsibilities as required
Education Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required – High School
Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
- Minimum 2-4 years of skating experience required
- Must have intermediate to advanced ice-skating skills, preferably with a background in figure skating or hockey
- Prior experience working with children in a recreational, sporting or academic setting preferred, but not required
- Must be available for weekday afternoon and weekend classes
- Individuals with a desire to coach and/or a talent for connecting with very young children are strongly encouraged to apply
Working Conditions:
- May be required to physically assist children and adults with skating
- Must be able to stand/skate for extended periods of time
- Should be able to bend and stand multiple times in an hour
