Overview

The Catholic Chaplain serves an essential function in the Office of Belonging and Inclusion and serves the spiritual needs of Babson students and as a resource for Babson faculty and staff. The Catholic Chaplain is responsible for supporting our diverse Catholic student community spiritually, and culturally; for offering a variety of religious, spiritual, educational, and social programs to the Catholic community; as well as supporting interfaith programming and multifaith life on campus. This involves serving as an advisor to the Babosn-Olin Catholic Association (BOCA).

Responsibilities

Spiritual

  • Provide one-on-one spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and support to students.
  • Offer small group spiritual formation that involves prayer, scripture/inspirational literature readings, and opportunities for reflection.
  • Collaborate with student-leaders to plan and organize weekly Catholic Mass.
  • Plan and provide retreats with a multidenominational group of student-leaders.
  • Work with a diverse team of religious leaders to develop multi-faith services and offerings campus-wide.
  • Participate in College functions such as Baccalaureate and Commencement.
  • Provide support and comfort to the Babson community and lead Peace Circles during crises.

Educational/social

  • Support the education the Babson community on Catholic tenets and traditions.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for students to engage in theological thought and inclusive dialogue around ethical and social justice concerns, religious diversity, and religious tolerance.
  • Collaborate with other campus departments for special programing (i.e., Hunger and Homelessness week, Leap of Faith week, International Education week, CARE Week).
  • Support BOCA in planning and participating in community outreach at Babson and/or Greater Boston as well as interfaith programming with other faiths on campus.
  • Facilitate engaging teachings that are relevant to college students.

Administrative

  • Attend regular Chaplain Meetings and one-on-one meetings with Associate Director of Spiritual Life.
  • Submit Catholic Priest monthly invoice for compensation.
  • Respond to electronic communications, phone calls, and other correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Submit weekly reports to Senior Director, Office of Belonging and Inclusion and Associate Director of Spiritual Life.
  • Hold weekly Office Hours at least 2-3 times on campus.
  • Meet with BOCA executive board throughout the year to assure alignment with OBI and Babson policies.
  • Maintain Catholic Mass closet and inventory of supplies. Notify appropriate person when supplies and other programming materials are needed.
  • Submit an annual budget for approval to Senior Director and Associate Director.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Counseling, or equivalent.

At Least 2-5 Years Of Related Experience.

Must have the knowledge and skills committed to social justice and be able to work in a multi-faith, diverse, and inclusive environment.

Must have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times

Must be able to serve as a confidential Title IX resource for students who have been impacted by gender-based misconduct.

Must have strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.

Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Ability to effectively interface with students, faculty, staff, trustees, and visitors.

Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and available as needed and to adjust and grow to the needs of the community.

How And Where You Will Work

Schedule is part-time, 15 hours/week for 10 months (possibility of renewal); August through May. Three weeks off between winter break and the start of the new semester.
