Job Description
The Division of Athletics & Recreation at Babson College is seeking qualified applicants for the Group Exercise Instructor position. Acting under direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation, the Group Exercise Instructor will provide excellent instruction in a variety of health/fitness formats. Candidate should have strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate with many different members of the Babson community, including faculty, staff, alumni, students and visitors to campus.
The position will promote Babson’s mission to advance healthy lifestyle choices through participation opportunities, educational experiences & supportive services. The Group Exercise Instructor will serve as a fitness resource for program participants and all Recreation Members to encourage continued class attendance and involvement in Group Exercise Programs
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teaching classes with energy and enthusiasm
- Ensuring that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising
- Knowing the names of participants who attend your classes
- Ensures that class areas are clean and set according to procedures.
- Arriving to teach class in advance of the scheduled time to greet participants, answer questions and address concerns
- Dressing appropriately for teaching exercise
- Begins and ends all classes on time
- Reporting any equipment/facility problems to the management team
- Noting new participants and sharing basic exercise information with them
- Arriving well-prepared, music cued and routine thought out
- Must be well-organized and prepared to teach classes
- Ensure compliance with rules and regulations of Babson College
- Represent the Athletic Department in the Babson Community and help ensure a positive experience for all users of our facility
- Attends all scheduled meetings and professional development courses.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Must be certified through ACE, NASM or other approved nationally accredited organization.
- Satisfactory interview/audition demonstrating appropriate safety cues, modifications, progressions, and outstanding presentation skills
- One to two years of relevant experience teaching group fitness or small-group training
- First Aid, CPR & AED Certification (or training/certification course on-site)
- May be required to work some nights/weekends and sub if needed
- Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
- This seasonal/intermittent position is contingent upon continued satisfactory performance and a continued need for skills/courses.
- Awareness of proper body mechanics to prevent injury
Hours: Ability to teach 2-3 classes per week.
