GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for ensuring regular and punctual student attendance; assisting teachers and nursing staff by making home visits and communicating with parents concerning attendance irregularities. Acting as a liaison between parents, students, school and/or community; providing information on services available to eligible students and families; conveying information regarding school and/or district activities and procedures; and referring families to other agencies.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist students, staff, teachers, and parents providing and/or conveying information regarding student's lack of attendance.
  • Collaborate with community agencies providing students and their families with intervention services to assist in maintaining regular and punctual school attendance.
  • Compile student/family information for a variety of uses providing information to determine eligibility for services.
  • Conduct home visits on a daily basis verifying addresses, assessing student absences, improving communication, providing information regarding school policies and programs, and/or providing referrals.
  • Confer with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel assisting in evaluating student progress and/or making referrals.
  • Maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential electronic documents and records providing an up-to-date reference.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees conveying and/or gathering information.
  • Prepare written and/or electronic materials documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Provide assistance for families facing challenges helping students maintain regular and punctual school attendance.
  • Refer students and their families to school personnel and/or outside agencies ensuring the needs of students and families are met.
  • Report health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies maintaining students’ personal safety and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources providing information and/or direction as may be required.
  • Serve as liaison for parents and students with the school and/or other agencies providing and/or gathering information and fostering a positive relationship.
  • Transport students and/or families to school, medical/dental appointments, meetings, community services, etc. ensuring that participants receive needed services and/or promoting involvement in the educational process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned ensuring the efficient and effective function of the work unit.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

  • Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License, with evidence of insurability.

  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic math.
  • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include community resources and principles of a community services program; and school educational programs.
  • Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and adhering to safety practices.
  • Ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions.
  • Ability to analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions and create action plans.
  • Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
  • Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
  • Ability to work as part of a team; analyze situations and make accurate decisions; work on multiple projects; and deal with frequent interruptions and changing work priorities.
  • Ability to work with detailed information; maintain confidentiality; and communicate with diverse groups.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
  • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Must possess the physical ability to perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
  • Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
