JOB SUMMARY:
Perform Grounds Maintenance and Custodial duties at a Department of Transportation Rest Area facility efficiently and effectively.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The list of essential functions below is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this job. Other duties may be assigned based on business needs.
- Perform specified grounds maintenance support according to specified contract methods.
- Perform grounds maintenance tasks to include:
- Mow, edge, and trim assigned sections of lawn
- Blow and dispose of all lawn debris in a proper manner.
- Keep Lawn areas green and healthy year-round.
- Ensure proper fertilization of grounds at scheduled intervals.
- Maintain the appearance of bushes shrubs and vegetation.
- Maintain and use supplies and equipment under established procedures.
- Perform custodial work according to the specified contracted methods of cleaning.
- Cleaning responsibilities include:
- Removal/disposal of trash
- Cleaning of offices including dusting, vacuuming, and/or sweeping
- Cleaning of restrooms including mopping, disinfecting, and cleaning mirrors, partitions, toilets, and sinks
- Stock paper and soap supplies
- Properly dispose of any hazardous waste material.
- Pick up litter from outside the foyer and grass areas.
- Maintain supplies and equipment under established procedures.
- Perform other specified custodial tasks as requested.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- None
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience working with ground maintenance equipment.
- Must be able to pass a background screening for access to the work areas.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience operating a zero-turn lawn mower.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the established essential functions to perform this job successfully.

- Must be able to work harmoniously in a team environment with a diverse workforce.
- Work at a reasonable pace for the job duties assigned and physical ability.
- Effective communication skills (e.g., able to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints).

- Reasoning Ability: Able to identify issues or problems, evaluate and draw valid conclusions.
- Attentive to detail for quality performance.
- If required to drive, a current driver’s license and clean driving record are required. May be required to drive the personal vehicle during work hours. Not all individuals will have to drive for this position.
TRAVEL:
No travel is expected for this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requirements will vary depending on the assigned tasks. This position does require the following: repetitive lifting, push/pull, carrying, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and prolonged standing. Will involve lifting/moving up to 40 pounds. These requirements can be met with or without reasonable accommodation.
SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work alone, with no supervision on select shifts.
- Working conditions are outdoors at the work sites (e.g., ground maintenance work). Custodial work may be inside or outside.
- Will need to use any personal protective (safety) equipment as designated properly and consistently.
- Involves exposure to hazardous materials (i.e., cleaning solutions and bio-waste hazards).
- Required training provided by the company.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Some tasks require manual dexterity.
Availability: Full Time - 8 am-4 pm (Monday to Friday)
Rate of Pay: $16.17
