Warehouse Crew Leader- Plants

Full Time Union Position: (First Shift M-F & Some Saturdays during Peak Seasons)

POSITION DUTIES:

• Assist the Perishable Warehouse Manager and any Operations Committee member as directed
• Oversee the processing, handling, inventory accuracy of, quality control of and maintenance of the downstairs cut flower receiving and processing area, the upstairs market bunch receiving and processing area, the downstairs and upstairs coolers and the design room bucket carts
• Assist with scheduling employees on a weekly basis so as to provide adequate coverage Monday through Saturday and Sundays as needed for your areas of responsibility
• Provide work direction to Shipping and Receiving Clerks, Warehouse Persons, Warehouse Helpers, seasonal employees, temporary agency employees and Bachman employees from other departments on loan to department 055. Follow up to ensure that all assigned duties are completed correctly and accurately
• Provide initial and ongoing training of all crew members on how to properly process, inspect for quality and maintain all of the different categories of flowers and related perishable items in the department
• Provide initial and ongoing training of all designated crewmembers on how to properly fill orders, both store orders and special orders for customers. Make sure that all special orders are filled and processed on time and that they are 100% accurate
• Identify and process all priority shipments as needed. Maintain communication with the buying staff regarding the processing status of incoming shipments in general and priority shipments in particular
• Respond to Perishable Warehouse Manager and Inventory Control Manager regarding inventory-related questions and issues. Promptly take corrective action is needed to correct any inventory issues related to receiving or transfers
• Organize, direct and participate in all phases of the annual inventory of items within your area of responsibility. Coordinate with the Perishable Warehouse Manager and Director – Grocery Floral Operations
• Track truck arrivals of all plants and specialty items and adjust work schedules as necessary
• Ensure the proper handling of all applicable freight and vendor claims
• Communicate daily with the appropriate buyers and work to resolve issues relating to availability, quality, inventory, special order items as well as invoice and purchase order issues
• Daily inventory all blooming plants and order from the Lakeville Greenhouse all needed items for store replenishments. Work with both the Buyer-Green and Blooming Plants and the Greenhouse Manager to ensure the timely arrival of needed items
• Oversee the unloading, storage and order filling of all tree tops associated with the annual tree top program. Coordinate with the buyer and vendor regarding arrival times and distribution amounts and dates. Also, work with the Manager-Delivery and Manager-Maintenance to ensure the timely arrival of storage trailers and to ensure their continuous operation at the desired temperature. Supervise the temperature monitoring program
• Oversee the unloading, storage and order filling of all outdoor seasonal accents. Coordinate with the Buyer-Annuals and Perennials and with the vendor regarding arrival times and distribution amounts and dates. Ensure that all items are stored in the appropriate temperature environment
• Monitor and react to environmental variances in coolers, greenhouses and refer trailers
• Daily ensure the completion of all plant related transfer requests and reported discrepancies. Make sure that all procedures are followed and properly completed
• Daily process the receipt of all plant items from vendors as well as items ordered from Lakeville and items ordered for Plant Leasing and Planter Production. Ensure that all items are properly received and that all paperwork is completed and distributed to the proper departments and individuals. Work with the Perishable Distribution staff regarding needed paperwork and information
• Check vendor tags for accuracy and price with Bachman tags as necessary. Make sure that stores receive correct price tags for all buyer initiated price changes
• Make the Perishable Warehouse Manager aware of any needed departmental supplies, especially those needed for upcoming holidays, peak periods or special events, including rental refer trailers, carts, tools and additional labor
• Ensure that all safety issues are addressed in a timely manner and encourage safety among coworkers on a daily basis
• Provide initial and ongoing training on proper and safe operation of all departmental motorized equipment
• Perform duties in lower classifications when necessary
• Other duties as assigned
• Perform the duties of the Crew Leader-Flowers in their absence
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Vo-tech education with a horticultural emphasis preferred
• Must be capable of learning all flower and plant varieties sold by Bachman’s
• Must possess or be capable of obtaining a valid Bachman’s forklift operator’s license
• Must have strong math skills
• Must have intermediate computer skills and be capable of learning and correctly using all related computer programs and applications
• Must be capable of training other employees how to use these same computer programs and applications
• At least one year’s experience as a leader in shipping and receiving or warehouse environment
• A good working knowledge of horticultural product including identification, grading and disease/insect recognition of blooming plants, green plants and cut flowers
• Must have proven ability to give work direction to both union and non-union employees
• Must be capable of operating a forklift and training other employees to perform all required duties, including but not limited to, operating motorized equipment
• Must be at least 18 years old. Must be able to move and/or lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds on an occasional basis with two or more people
• Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
• Must be capable of working in both very cold and very hot and humid conditions
• Must be able to work in an environment with dust
• Attendance is an essential function of this position and we rely on all of our employees to be at work during their scheduled shift
