Responsibilities and Duties
• Conduct initial intake interviews with potential clients over the phone or in-person.
• Gather detailed information about the incident, injuries, and any other relevant facts.
• Provide a compassionate and empathetic listening ear to callers, ensuring they feel supported and understood.
• Accurately document and input information into our case management system.
• Coordinate with attorneys and other legal staff to ensure a seamless handoff of client information.
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with the utmost care.
• Follow up with potential clients as needed to complete the evaluation process.
• Assist with scheduling consultations and meetings for attorneys.
• Provide high quality, culturally competent legal advocacy for survivors of sexual assault.
• Assist attorneys in representation of sexual assault survivors in a range of cases
• Participate in weekly meetings regarding your cases.
• Follow-up with each active case client at least two times per month.
• At times, when appropriate and requested by the victim, you may be required to accompany victims to medical appointments, investigator interviews, or court proceedings. You will continue to provide support for sexual assault victims throughout the lifecycle of the case or for as long as needed.
• You will be responsible for ensuring victims receive guidance and support during administrative, investigative, and legal procedures and fully understand the processes involved.
• Generally, you will assist families in their pursuit of justice and navigate the complexities of the legal system, bringing your emotional intelligence to the table, while providing empathetic support to our clients during challenging times.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in a human-services or law-related field)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizations and individuals to identify, establish, modify, and provide sexual assault victim support assistance
- Skills required to effectively communicate with all levels of management, staff, intervening agencies, and families from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds, both verbally and in writing.
- Competence required to provide information and one-on-one assistance to victims under difficult circumstances using sensitivity, tact, and caring, as well as understand and have empathy for victims
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to build trust and develop supportive relationships
- Experience with efficiently prioritizing time-sensitive duties
- Experience with successfully maintaining and adhering to a strict code of confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong analytical ability to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment and ethical practice
- Project management skills to implement crisis intervention and situational assessment techniques, analyze the needs of the victim, and provide support and/or assistance to them in the resolution of complex problems
- Ability to read and write in Spanish as well as English
- Demonstrated experience serving diverse populations in a trauma-informed environment
- Ability to successfully receive, review, and track victims' requests and referrals for legal assistance, schedule intakes, and assist attorneys in preparing for client meetings, hearings, and trials by providing bilingual support and interpretation as needed.
- Aptitude for assisting with tracking referrals, reports, and services external legal partners provide.
