What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wildland Emergency Medical Technician, REMS, Technical Rescue position at Backcountry Medics?
We are looking for a small amount of experienced and physically fit EMTs to join us for the 2025 wildland season.
Backcountry Medics
We are headquartered out of Boise, ID and provide medical and technical rescue services to Wildland Firefighters nationwide. We are veteran owned and operated and prioritize quality over quantity and equip our teams with the best gear and training available. We take great pride in and specialize in our Rapid Extrication Module Support (REMS) teams.
Job Description
We are hiring for our REMS teams only at this point. REMS consists of 4 personnel able to provide technical rescue and emergency medical services to Wildland Firefighters while on the line. All of our members are a minimum of Rope Rescue Technician and we deploy with 3 EMTs and 1 Medic, all Fireline qualified.
Deployments are 14-21 days in length and the season runs from June through the end of October. While deployed, you are guaranteed 16 hours of paid time a day.
Start Date is June 3rd for our Spring Training Academy, afterwards you are on-call until the fire season.
Fitness Test
All our returning and new employees must be able to pass the following fitness test. These are the minimums, to be competitive you should aim to score significantly higher.4 mile ruck with 60lbs in steep terrain (being able to run 1.5 miles <11:15 minutes is a good indicator), 5 strict pull-ups, 25 push-ups, 1,200 meter farmers carry with 45lbs in each hand in <25 minutes.
Spring Academy
All members will attend a 17 day REMS academy in early June that includes a Rope Rescue ops/tech course by Rescue 3 (Specialist course for those that already have their Tech), one-on-one interviews with our Medical Director, and a four day Vehicle Extrication Technician course.
