What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Technician position at Backstage Library Works?
Backstage Library Works is hiring local library technicians for a temporary, on-site project at Harvard University's Fine Arts Library. Our team will either pull and pack items into totes for off-site storage or shift them to a different section of shelving on the same floor. As items are pulled, technicians will scan each into a client-provided spreadsheet used to track condition, association, and barcode status. Items with preservation concerns, based on client guidelines, will be marked in the spreadsheet and set aside. Technicians will also check for “Association Copy” by referencing a list of names provided by the client. Any items lacking an exterior barcode will have one duplicated and applied, while items without barcodes or item records will have them created and linked. A client-provided sticker will be applied to all items headed to off-site storage.
This position requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work efficiently in a physical, hands-on environment.
The project is estimated to last from March 12th to June 27th, 2025.
