The Pharmacy Department at Backus consists of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists who work together in a collaborative team environment meeting the needs of our patients.
The Lead Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacist in all aspects of the Pharmacy operations in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department with all aspects of purchasing in the Pharmacy to support the daily needs of the department and the hospital. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:
Assists registered pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing and distribution of non-sterile and sterile/hazardous (if assigned) medications.
Maintain inventories by ordering, stocking, packaging and/or rotating drugs and supplies, discarding expired drugs to ensure adequate supplies at all times in accordance with established department procedures.
Monitors storage conditions for drugs and other pharmacy items through regular nursing unit inspections to ensure items are stored appropriately.
Coordinates the training and documentation of new technicians in assigned work area
Assists Pharmacy Management team in technician scheduling and performance evaluation.
Assist Pharmacy leadership team with quality and regulatory tasks.
Works effectively as a team member within department and with customers to provide quality service to hospital units through communication, cooperation and collaboration
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent

Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- Three (3) years’ experience as a hospital pharmacy technician
- Pharmacy registration with Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection required by March 31st of each year.
- Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician from a recognized certification board within six months of hire.
