Design Consultant

Backyard Living is Northern New Jersey’s friendly neighborhood world class outdoor furniture and decor store. We are obsessed with providing the furniture and decor to transform our customers’ backyards into the oasis of their dreams. Think of us as a high end furniture and decor boutique.

We are looking for a self-motivated design consultant who is confident guiding clients through the process of elevating their outdoor spaces.

Our regular customers are like family, and have come to expect a warm welcome, a personal shopping experience, and subject matter expertise from our team. It is important that the Design Consultant is committed to delighting customers every time they visit.

This is a customer-facing retail role, and working some early evenings (we close at 6PM most days) and at least 50% of weekends will be the norm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Guide customers through complexities of the custom furniture purchasing process from beginning to end. This is not high-pressure sales - it is buying facilitation driven by product knowledge and an innate desire to help customers accomplish their goals.
• Advise the buying team on product and fabric selections for the Short Hills showroom based on the likes and needs of clients at this location.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years previous interior design experience.
• Knowledge of, and experience working with, clients in close proximity to Short Hills, NJ.
• At least 2 years of retail experience.
• Experience in custom-order furniture.
• Incredible customer service skills & the ability to help maintain a customer focused culture
• Must be proficient with a calculator, computer, and other equipment
• Ability to work as part of a team and interact with different levels from hourly team members, customers, vendors, and corporate representatives
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule of nights, days, weekends, and holidays
• Background check is required

Physical Demands:

Position requires walking, lifting, and standing throughout the day; must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks. Requires manual dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, and climbing. Valid driver's license required (no CDL needed). Sitting or standing for extended periods of time Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. Talking and listening occur continuously in the process of communicating with customers and co-workers, often in an active environment with considerable background noise. Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
