Job Summary:
The position of Insulator Foreman in the oil and gas sector, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation and safety of industrial systems. Your primary responsibility will be to install, maintain, and repair insulation materials on pipes, tanks, and equipment to prevent heat loss, reduce energy consumption, and protect personnel from hazardous temperatures.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ability to evaluate potential projects, develop competitive proposals and submit bids to secure business.
- Measure, cut, and fit insulation materials on various industrial components, including pipes, vessels, and machinery, adhering to industry standards and specifications.
- Inspect existing insulation systems for wear and tear and perform necessary repairs or replacements to maintain optimal insulation performance.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and your colleagues. Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Choose the right insulation materials based on temperature, environment, and application requirements, including fiberglass, foam, and mineral wool.
- Maintain accurate records of insulation work completed, materials used, and any safety incidents.
- Work closely with engineers, construction teams, and other trades to ensure projects are completed on time and to specifications.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and mechanical needs for the tin cutting process to include the ability to read blueprint drawings and cut lists
- These tools can include (but are not limited to) tape measure, angle finder
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment, ensuring that it is functioning and operating properly
- Basic math knowledge used in common calculations
- Must be professional and motivated to complete all tasks assigned and possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must have working knowledge and the ability to use computers and software such as Microsoft Office, email, timekeeping programs, invoicing, etc.
- While performing this job's duties, the employee must be able to effectively communicate with other employees, managers, and all other relevant third parties involved with the jobs performed. This includes (but may not be limited to) typing, speaking, reading, writing, and hearing.
- Ability to quote bid/insulation projects.
Education & Experience:
Basic
- A minimum of 3 years of management/supervisory experience, with at least 3 years of oilfield industry-specific experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certification or vocational training is a plus.
- Proven experience in mechanical insulation, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge of insulation materials, techniques, and safety regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in challenging environments, including extreme temperatures and heights.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Education & Experience:
Preferred
- A degree from an accredited technical school or university
- At least 3 years oilfield insulation and tin fabrication experience
- At least 3 years oilfield carpentry experience
- At least 3 years’ experience erecting engineered scaffolding
- At least 3 years’ experience insulating and fabricating tin for tanks and vessels
Physical Requirements

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted. The incumbent must wear a respirator when required. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery are required. This job also requires a full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks safely.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is usually done outdoors and sometimes at a client facility or job site and is frequently performed in inclement and/or extreme weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to moving electricity, mechanical parts, vehicles, equipment, and hazardous materials. This position regularly requires long work hours and frequent weekend work.
