Process Safety Engineer (Explosives)

Job Description

BAE Systems, one of the world's leading defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 Company, is hiring a Senior Safety Professional / Specialist to support explosive safety and Department of Defense (DOD) compliance at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) in southwestern Virginia. This position will also provide modernization project support at Radford and remotely at Holston Army Ammunition Plant (HSAAP) Kingsport, TN on an as needed basis. BAE Systems manufactures chemicals, propellants, and other energetic materials including explosives at these two sites.

Overview :

The Senior Safety Professional / Specialist will be part of the Safety Engineering and Hazards Analysis Team that is responsible for providing safety support to Modernization programs and various manufacturing areas at RFAAP. Areas of support will include the decontamination process, change approvals, tooling reviews, area inspections, technical safety reviews, specialized energetic testing, Site Safety Committee support, DOD code compliance, and response to Army questions. Modernization projects will be supported on an as needed basis.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

• Develop a working knowledge of the common hazards related to processing energetic materials and how to prevent and / or mitigate those hazards.
• Develop a working knowledge of the applicable DOD requirements for RFAAP manufacturing processes.
• Develop and implement an inspection process for explosive safety compliance.
• Learn and support the site explosive safety site plan process as required.
• Provide technical safety support to manufacturing areas and management teams when required.
• Develop and maintain safety policies / standards related to the Hazards Analysis group and areas of expertise.
• Support manufacturing process and equipment changes by completing code compliance reviews, technical analyses, and area inspections.
• Support project teams throughout the entire design, build, and commissioning activities by providing Design and Process Safety input and analysis to ensure a safe and compliant process.
• Participate in internal design reviews, root cause analyses, and Process Hazard Analysis meetings as required.
• Work closely with project teams to ensure completion of PHA generated follow up actions.
• Perform safety investigations as required.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range : $83900 - $142600

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to : business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
