This role reports to the Director of Systems Engineering for the Space and Mission Systems (SMS) sector of BAE Systems Inc. The Chief Systems Engineer owns the definition, expectations, and practice of Systems Engineering across the Space and Mission Systems sector, to include MBSE implementation and adoption. The SMS Sector CS is recognized as the sector-wide representative of systems engineering to customers, sector and corporate leadership. The SMS Sector CSE establishes and maintains systems engineering as a recognized, positive discriminator and core competency at SMS.
The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You’ll Do:
- Collaborate with Director of Systems Engineering on Systems Engineering (SE) strategy, tactical plan and roadmap.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with Systems Engineering Managers, program leadership, sector leadership and sector system engineers.
- Own and manage development and execution of SE processes, resources and training for SMS.
- Own and manage development and execution of MBSE implementation across the sector.
- Lead SMS implementation of INCOSE resources, SE guidance & certifications
- Responsible for management and training of sector SE Tools (DOORS, JAMA, Cameo, etc.).
- Liaison from program systems engineering leads to ESA leadership.
- SMS representative in the BAE, Inc level Systems Engineering Working Group (SEWG).
- Maintain and lead cross-discipline meetings to ensure best practices are shared and implemented among disciplines that participate in Systems Engineering activities.
- Independently assess the application of Systems Engineering best practices within programs and disciplines.
- Support Systems Engineering process improvement goals and execute process corrective actions to support program execution as required.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Lead teams to resolve critical business, programmatic, or technical issues with respect to systems engineering as needed.
- Ensure that all business is conducted with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with all applicable laws, statutes, and regulations as well as company policies and directives.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 12 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
- A history of being a self-starter, having excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and with a team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver results.
- Demonstrated ability to interface to and co-ordinate with other engineering disciplines/organizations.
- Prior experience working in/with controlled, classified security environments.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- INCOSE ESEP certification.
- A history of leading without direct authority.
- Relevant work experience with end-to-end aerospace mission and product development and production.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $150370 - $255630

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
