The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Systems Administrator to join our team working with the Navy's Department of Defense Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC). This role offers you the chance to work on cutting-edge technology in a mission-centered environment, maintaining infrastructure that drives key research and development for the Department of Defense.
You will provide expert-level support for critical systems, services, and devices in both classified and unclassified spaces, working closely with other infrastructure teams to ensure system availability, reliability, and security in a high-performance computing (HPC) environment.
The Role
As a Senior Linux Administrator, you will:
- Provide full lifecycle support for the entire Linux infrastructure across classified and unclassified spaces.
- Assist with the implementation and support of security policies to ensure compliance with DoD standards.
- Perform troubleshooting and resolution of complex hardware and software issues.
- Administer and support email servers in classified and unclassified environments.
- Handle user management tasks, including account creation, permissions, and security protocols and tools such as Kerberos.
- Collaborate with the networking team to ensure seamless integration and performance.
Key Requirements
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and qualifications:
- Technical Expertise: In-depth experience with Linux server administration, particularly in high-security environments, and comfort working with both classified and unclassified systems.
- Collaboration: Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively with network engineers, security specialists, and other infrastructure teams.
- Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying issues, troubleshooting, and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Automation Skills: Experience with scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl and tools such as Puppet or Ansible to automate system administration tasks.
- Security Awareness: Strong understanding of security practices, particularly in a DoD environment. Familiarity with STIGs.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Documentation: Excellent ability to document processes, procedures, and system configurations.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor's degree and at least 3-6 years of experience preferred (additional experience may be substituted for the degree)
At least 4 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration
DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification required - Security and OS cert, Linux, RedHat, etc. (waiver may be provided to obtain the OS certification)
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience supporting virtual machines, mass storage, and email servers
Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls)
Familiarity with DoD security guidelines and requirements (STIGs, FISMA, etc.)
Experience with automation and scripting (Puppet, Ansible, Bash, Python, Perl)
Experience working in a classified environment
Pay Information
This is a salaried position with a pay range of $91,980 - $156,330 based on market conditions, candidate qualifications, and internal equity.
