What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Recreation Assistant - Fitness Floor Attendant position at Bainbridge Island Metro Park and Recreation District?
Under general supervision, the Senior Recreation Assistant performs a variety of duties related to the operation of specific facilities as well as assisting the Program Manager with various programs. The Senior Recreation Assistant will work closely with the Program Manager, Administrative Staff and the Parks Facility Manager.
- Ensure a safe workout environment through constant circulation of the fitness floors, studios, and gymnasium.
- Ensure all policies and procedures of the facility are enforced.
- Have knowledge of fitness equipment.
- Keep the fitness floor clean and make sure all weights and equipment/benches are in their proper place.
- Clean equipment according to area/schedule and report to the BIRC Program Administrator.
- Inspect and monitor the fitness floors, studios, and gymnasium for safety, cleanliness, availability of cleaning solutions and towels.
- Be on the floor in proper uniform and ready to work at the start of the shift.
- Have knowledge of BIRC Front Desk operations.
- Back up the BIRC Front Desk staff when needed.
- Follow opening and closing procedures if assigned.
- Execute emergency procedures when necessary.
- Report any incident of injury, theft, or broken equipment to the BIRC Program Administrator.
- Have knowledge of BIRC programs and services in order to assist patrons.
- Communicate effectively with all peers and supervisors.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and complete all required training.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be age 18 or older.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and qualify to drive the BIMPRD vans.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year experience in customer service or custodial work.
- Three years of experience specific to program and good comprehensive knowledge of equipment associated with program.
- Must maintain current CPR/AED & First Aid certifications.
- Willing to work early mornings, late nights, and/or weekend shifts.
Work Environment and Physical Effort
This is a non-smoking workplace. Work is performed indoor and outdoor and may need to be executed in inclement weather. Work may require early morning, evening, and weekend duties.

- The ability to perform maintenance duties that require sustained, strenuous physical exertion that includes activities such as standing for long periods of time.

- Must be also to stack, push, pull, bend, twist, climb and stand for extended periods.
- Work environment may be noisy at times and require extensive interaction with District customers.
