Overview
The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation seeks an experienced, personable, community-minded individual who shares our passion for championing and celebrating our island’s parks and trails.
Position Description
The Development Director leads BIPTF’s fundraising programs, collaborating with Executive Director on the planning of the Foundation’s annual development strategies as informed by the strategic plan. The successful candidate will have an established track record planning, coordinating and implementing nonprofit fundraising strategies and share an enthusiasm for the Foundation’s mission and vision. The Development Director will report to BIPTF’s Executive Director.
The Development Director will oversee all BIPTF’s fundraising activities that support BIPF’s operations and programs. These include, but are not limited to:
· Major gifts program
· Annual fund
· Sustained giving program
· Campaigns to support specific parks, trails and recreation projects
· Planned giving
The Development Director’s role involves working with BIPTF staff and board members to build and support relationships with donors and community members. The Development Director will work in close coordination with BIPTF’s Senior Communications Manager to develop fundraising objectives that will inform concepts and communications for fundraising.
The Development Director will commit to learning about and understanding all aspects of the organization to effectively communicate about BIPTF and all BIPTF supported projects. The Development Director will be an articulate formal and informal spokesperson for BIPTF in the community.
Responsibilities
· Lead BIPTF’s donor relationship and fundraising strategy operations
· Lead fundraising objectives to inform marketing strategy for both BIPTF and specific trails and parks projects
· Build positive working relationships with BIP&TF Board Members and key community volunteers
· Participate in donor cultivation and prepare Executive Director for meetings with current and prospective donors
· Serve as lead staff for the BIPTF Development Committee, engaging Committee members in strategy and planning
· Work with BIPTF’s Executive Director and Communications Director to develop annual grant planning, identifying grant opportunities and approaches
· Collaborate on the planning, organization, and implementation of special events for all fundraising, donor cultivation, stewardship and celebrating completed projects
· Manage and improve BIPTF’s capacity to track and generate reports on donors through CRM and donor database systems
· Ensure BIPTF is adequately thanking donors, reporting back to donors, and working toward increasing contribution levels over time
· Provide technical support to volunteer committees leading fundraising campaigns for specific parks, trails, and recreation projects
· Perform other duties as requested
Desired qualifications and experience
· A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of nonprofit fundraising and general development experience
· Experience in strategic marketing for nonprofit institutions
· Working knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) software for nonprofit organizations, donor databases and other technology for fundraising management
· Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
· Positive attitude, showing interest in people and community, demonstrating presence, confidence, and good listening skills
· Superb written and verbal communication skills
· Creative self-starter and inspiring team leader
· Strong Microsoft Office products knowledge with emphasis on Word and Excel
· Strong computer technology skills and ability to learn new technology quickly
· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with a high level of accuracy
· Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for meetings and events
· Ability to take initiative; excellent time management, problem-solving skills; work independently with multiple constituencies
Compensation
Salaried 30 hours per week (negotiable), with compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits include Paid time off, 9 paid holidays per year and a flexible work schedule.
