As a Structural Engineer at Baird, you’ll work on a wide variety of challenging projects including ports, ferry terminals, seawalls, bulkheads, flood protection structures, dams, spillways, and more. As a Structural Engineer at Baird, you’ll work on a wide variety of challenging projects including ports, ferry terminals, seawalls, bulkheads, flood protection structures, dams, spillways, and more. You’ll be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team with opportunities for growth, mentorship, and technical development—playing a key role in the full design and delivery of coastal and waterfront projects.
What You Will Do
- Support the development and execution of marine and waterfront structural engineering projects worldwide
- Assist in project design efforts, preparation of plans & specifications, and construction oversight
- Perform structural analysis and design using concrete and steel for marine infrastructure
- Contribute to technical reviews, quality control, and project delivery from concept through construction
- Conduct occasional field visits for inspections and construction support
- Collaborate with colleagues across different offices and time zones
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or related area including steel and concrete design classes
- Current PE or SE registration
- 3 years of experience focused on structural design for marine infrastructure
- Proficiency in concrete and steel design; ability to produce structural drawings and details
- The ability to analyze and design as an individual contributor. The ability to create concrete and steel drawings and details (manually or by CAD) and to perform analyses in SAP2000 or a similar FE software
- Experience with deep foundations, piers, harbor walls, cofferdams, retaining walls, and bulkheads
- Professional report-writing experience including self-proofreading
- Effective project management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to travel for short- and medium-term field assignments domestically and internationally (1–2 weeks, occasionally longer)
- Familiarity with geotechnical and structural engineering software, including EnSoft software products (e.g. LPILE, APILE, Group), sheet pile design, mooring analysis, and P-M diagram generation
- Experience with codes and standards beyond IBC and ASCE 7 e.g. EM, API, PIANC, AASHTO
- Geotechnical engineering coursework or experience related to deep foundations or sheet pile bulkheads
- Knowledge of seismic design/analysis including dynamic earth pressure calculations using Mononobe-Okabe
