The purpose of the Conflicts Analyst position is to participate in the Firm’s risk management activities by performing business research and database content analysis designed to reduce risk to the Firm and increase billable lawyer productivity. The ultimate goal of the function is to provide information to the Conflicts Counsel or requesting Firm attorney so that they can confirm 1) that the acceptance of the new business does not negatively affect the interests of current or past Firm clients and 2) that the new business does not affect the Firm’s ability to impartially represent current, former, and new clients. This is a full-time, fully remote, non-exempt position with excellent benefits, resident in Washington D.C. office and reporting to the Conflicts Manager.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Performs company research on all new & existing clients, all non-client parties associated with new matters, all lateral attorney and staff employment candidates, and potential vendors servicing the Firm in order to obtain full legal company names, obtain and confirm correct spellings of parties, identify parent and/or subsidiary entities related to the parties if warranted, identify industry types, and the like in order to ensure integrity with respect to the content of the conflicts report and data entered into the conflicts database.
- Executes searches in the Firm’s conflicts database on all names submitted for new business and associated names identified through company research.
- Analyzes and interprets complex database research results in order to identify potential issues in new business that may affect compliance with Firm policies and the relevant Model Rules of Professional Conduct of the American Bar Association.
- Generates accurate and succinct conflicts reports and supporting documentation in order to effectively communicate potential compliance issues to the Conflicts Counsel and/or the requesting Firm lawyer.
- Functions in a quality control role for the Business Intake team by confirming data and content integrity elements of the conflicts reports prior to delivery to the Conflicts Counsel and/or requesting lawyer.
- Educates and provides guidance to internal customers regarding the policies and procedures of the Business Intake and Conflicts Department.
- Provides support to Conflicts Counsel in connection with the identification and resolution of potential conflicts of interest as requested.
- Assists departmental leadership and the Office of General Counsel on special projects as requested.
- Undertakes other projects and duties as assigned by the Conflicts Manager or Associate Director of Business Intake & Conflicts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- If no degree, 3-5 years' experience in a conflicts analyst role is required.
- Substantial experience conducting company information research using proprietary databases, company websites and other internet resources.
- Strong research, problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with colleagues, which will include lawyers, paralegals and legal support staff, both verbally and through written documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of internal and personnel affairs.
- Proven flexibility in managing multiple priorities.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a time-sensitive environment.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently while promoting and participating in a team environment.
- Demonstrated computer skills including the advanced use of Internet search engines, general database applications, and Microsoft Office products.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution within the areas of Library Science, Information Management, Paralegal Studies, or a related field of study.
- 3-5 years’ experience in a conflicts analysis role.
- Experience in legal business intake or conflicts of interest roles/duties.
- Knowledge of conflicts of interest concepts and rules, business intake principles and practices, and familiarity with key firm business processes that interface with business intake and conflicts.
- Experience using Intapp New Business Intake and Advanced Conflicts system, S&P Capital IQ, and Dow Jones Risk & Compliance databases.
This position requires contact with individuals within the firm as follows:
- a high degree of contact with the Firm General Counsel’s Office and Knowledge Services systems staff.
- a high degree of contact with Firm lawyers, administrative assistants, and legal support staff.
- a moderate to high degree of contact with Records & Information Governance, Financial Services and Client Development departments.
- Routine office environment; must be able to sit at computer for long periods of time analyzing data; must be able to lift files and research materials up to approximately 10 lbs.
- This is a full-time, fully remote, non-exempt, Firmwide position.
- The work week in Washington D.C. is 37.5 hours.
- This role will only be required to report to the office based on occasional needs and when directed by the department’s Manager or Associate Director.
- Work is normally performed in a standard office environment.
- Position is full-time and requires a five-day work week and standard hours as outlined in the Firm policy manual. Must participate in weekend and after-hours rotations to accommodate service to the Firm’s International offices, meet established deadlines, or stay current with occasional peaks in workload.
