Baker Botts L.L.P. seeks a highly motivated Practice Economics Analyst to support the Practice Management department. This exempt position is resident in the Firm’s Houston office and reports to the Director of Practice Economics.

Primary Responsibilities
- Assist Practice Economics Managers and other function leadership in analyzing firm, department, practice group, and client matter financial reporting to identify trends
- Develop pricing proposals in collaboration with Partners, Practice Economics Managers, and Client Development by analyzing historical cost, leverage, and matter information
- Develop monthly reporting and presentations for Firm and department leadership
- Assist Practice Economics Managers in analyzing departmental performance versus goal
- Perform predictive scenario / sensitivity analysis and modeling to assess the impact of proposed initiatives
- Assist function leadership with the development and administration of pricing systems
- Monitor the performance of selected client matters, as directed, and compare financial and operational performance against internal and external benchmarks
- Compare financial and operational performance against internal and external benchmarks
- Research and analysis related to other assigned financial projects, including monitoring of trends in support of the firm rate-setting and review process
- Maintain billing rate information in Firm systems and address questions as needed
- Report on the status of various department initiatives and metrics to the Chief Practice Management Officer and other key stakeholders
- Other projects and/or duties as assigned
Education & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a business-related degree is required
- A minimum of three years’ experience in a law firm or professional services firm in areas related to financial analysis is strongly preferred; other similar work experience will be considered
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience with the Elite and Aderant systems a plus
- Must be organized, analytical and detail oriented
- Able to multi-task, prioritize, and deliver quality work product in a deadline driven environment; overtime is required during peak times
- Must be team oriented, yet also able to be self-sufficient and work independently
- Ability to interact with internal and external customers and team members employing a high degree of tact, diplomacy and professionalism
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Extensive contact with lawyers and staff in all locations at all levels.
- Typically limited to light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.
- Occasional moderate physical activity may be necessary.
- Position is full-time and requires a five-day workweek and standard hours as outlined in the firm policy manual. Work may require more than the regularly scheduled hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position. Must be able to perform essential duties of the position with time constraints and frequent interruptions.
