Our Intellectual Property Services department has an excellent opportunity for a Docketing Specialist in the IP Services department. Based in Orange County, the position reports to the Patent Manager. The open position focuses on docketing related to US and international patent prosecution matters, from pre-filing to grant, in support of the patent prosecution practice.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Review and clear US and Non-US IP prosecution docket on a daily basis.
- Review and docket new patent filings and correspondence to/from the USPTO or foreign agents; including assisting in quality assurance review by noting any errors or omissions.
- Prepare customized docket reports for attorneys, staff and clients as needed.
- Review incoming file transfers and add related matter details to the docket system; including reviewing electronic sources such as PAIR and other country-specific websites.
- Update and audit trail check of incoming and outgoing correspondence processed by peers.
- Stay up-to-date with changes to IP rules and regulations.
- Maintain excellent client service to internal and external clients.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or work experience equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of IP prosecution docketing experience.
- Deep understanding of Intellectual Property rules and regulations in jurisdictions worldwide.
- Experience and familiarity with IP docketing systems; FoundationIP (FIP) preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with attorneys, staff and clients to identify needs and implement solutions .
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, Document Management Systems such as Net Documents.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with staff members. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to all levels of professional and support staff. Ability to write simple correspondence and routine messages. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating instructions, procedure manuals, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, financial reports, or legal documents.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Work may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.

Must be able to perform essential duties of the position with time constraints and interruptions. A strong client service approach and team orientation. Demonstrate good judgment, tact, and flexibility under pressure in a mixed-matrix environment with may competing priorities.
The expected annual salary for this position ranges from $75,000-85,000. The salary offered will be determined by a wide range of factors including but not limited to experience level, education/training, and relevant skills.
