Quality Control Civil Inspector (Concrete Special Inspector)
Summary:
Responsible for performing quality control inspections and testing on concrete materials, products, and construction activities at nuclear facilities. Ensures compliance with project specific nuclear requirements, codes, specifications, and procedures. Is certified as an ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector or ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector or capable of being certified within 90-days.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspect concrete batch plants, materials, batching, mixing, transportation, placement, curing, and testing of concrete used in nuclear safety-related structures
- Verify concrete mix designs meet specification requirements for strength, durability, etc.
- Witness sampling of concrete and testing of slump, air content, temperature, and cylinder specimens
- Inspect formwork, shoring, reinforcing steel placement, embedded items, and pre-stressing activities
- Monitor concrete placement activities including pre-pour inspections, placements, curing, and protection
- Perform structural testing like pull-out, torque, and Windsor probe tests on hardened concrete
- Maintain detailed reports and documentation verifying material traceability and inspection results
- Review concrete testing lab reports and ensure compliance with project specifications
- Identify and report any deficiencies or non-conforming work to initiate corrective actions
- Serve as the Special Inspector on structural concrete in jurisdictions requiring special inspections
Qualifications:
- ACI Certified Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade 1
- Certified and approved as an ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector or
ICC Certified Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector
- Experience in concrete inspection on nuclear and/or commercial projects
- Knowledge of ACI codes and industry standards for nuclear concrete construction
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, codes and standards
- Strong technical writing skills for documenting inspections and nonconformances
- Must meet stringent nuclear industry training and access requirements
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
