POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Finish Utility Sprayer
Payroll: Full-time; Non-Exempt
Salary: DOE
Expected Hours: 35-44 per week

BASIC FUNCTION
Finish Utility Sprayer is responsible for applying decorative and protective finishes—such as stains, paints, lacquers, and waxes—to furniture. This role is vital in achieving a polished and aesthetically pleasing final product, which involves surface preparation, filling imperfections, and meticulously applying finishes in accordance with specific customer or design specifications. Additionally, furniture finishers may engage in antique restoration, employing specialized techniques to preserve the integrity of original pieces while addressing any damage.
DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
Surface Preparation: Thoroughly clean, sand, and fill imperfections on furniture pieces to create a smooth surface for finishing.
Finish Application: Apply stains, sealers, paints, lacquers, varnishes, shades, or oils according to specifications, using appropriate application techniques like brushing, spraying, striping, distressing, or hand-rubbing.
Color Matching: Accurately match finishes to custom requirements or color samples
Masking and Protection: Protect areas not intended to be finished by properly masking off sections of the furniture.
Quality Inspection: Inspect finished products for defects, ensuring a high-quality aesthetic and durability. Perfecting with finishing repairs.
Repair and Restoration: May perform minor repairs to furniture, such as filling cracks or repairing damaged areas, before applying finishes. Draw Edging
Following Instructions: Adhere to detailed work instructions, blueprints, and finish specifications.
Equipment Knowledge: Must have a working knowledge of pump house equipment, finishing tools, spray guns, air pressure powered tools. Remove hardware from cases and drawers with battery powered tools. Use air pressure powered staple gun to hang shelves and doors on racks.
Production: Load production line and must be able to keep production line flowing while maintaining quality standards.
Housekeeping and Safety: Maintain clean and organized workstation and department. Adhere to company safety standards to maintain a safe workplace. Wear the required PPE and store chemicals properly at end of day.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Hand and Power Tool Proficiency: Expertise in using woodworking tools such as sanders, spray guns, brushes, and other finishing equipment.
Color Theory and Mixing: A solid understanding of how to mix stains and paints to achieve the desired colors.
Attention to Detail: The ability to meticulously apply finishes and identify even the slightest imperfections.
Physical Stamina: Capability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy furniture pieces.
Attention-to-detail: The ability to accurately assess surface quality and color variations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Typically located in a woodworking shop or furniture manufacturing facility, where workers may be exposed to dust, fumes, and noise from power tools.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School graduate preferred
2 years experience in finishing
2 years color matching and mixing
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $21.15 per hour
