POSITION TITLE
Principal—Middle School
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Arizona State Administrative Certificate.
- Master’s degree in education.
- Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
- Five years of successful teaching experience, middle school level required.
- Fifteen (15) hours of State approved Structured English Immersion (SEI) coursework.

SUPERVISES
All certified and classified employees assigned to the Middle School as outlined by the District's Organizational Chart.
JOB GOAL
To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student and the professional development of staff members.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates in principal's meetings and such other meetings as are required and appropriate.
- Participates in school board meetings, work study, and retreats as required and appropriate.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the staff and students.
- Supervises the educational program.
- Functions as the instructional leader.
- Facilitates in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
- Supervises and evaluates the extra-curricular program.
- Supervises the preparation of all reports regarding the educational program as requested.
- Makes recommendations concerning the educational programs.
- Supervises student services and disciplinary programs.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process to the rights of students.
- Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of students.
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the process and attendance of students.
- Works to prevent students from dropping out of school.
- Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, and non-professional personnel attached to the school.
- Assumes responsibility for the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of professional staff.
- Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
- Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
- Conducts staff meetings as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
- Recommends the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory, according to established procedures.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
- Plans and supervises fire drills, lock down procedures, and an emergency preparedness program.
- Delegates responsibility as necessary for the maintenance and improvement of the building.
- Acts as liaison between the school and the community.
- Interprets programs, activities, and policies for parents and community.
- Encourages community participation in school life.
- Plans for special conferences between parents and teachers.
- Schedules and presides at site council meetings.
- Oversees budget projections and expenditures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Eleven and one-half (11.5) months, 245 workdays at Grade 5 on the Initial Placement Administrative Salary Schedule.

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
