- Baker School District is currently seeking a candidate for a Secondary Art teaching position at Baker High School for grades 9 – 12 beginning the 2025-2026 school year. Position is 1.0 FTE.
- This benefited position will begin in August 2025 (Exact date still to be determined); Insurance will begin September 1, 2025.
- Provides students with qualitative information and experiences in design, techniques, and aesthetics, for the purpose of developing career enhancing skills along with a life-long appreciation for the visual arts.
- An Oregon Teaching License with proper endorsement.
- A portfolio of quality examples of personal work in area(s) of specialty.
- Knowledge of design elements and principles.
- A strong understanding of how design skills are used in careers.
- Prepares students to be more visually aware of the world around them.
- Trains the student to respond to and justify judgments of works of art.
- Teaches students to express ideas and feelings through visual form.
- Guides students in the study of historical and contemporary aspects of visual arts from all cultures.
- Identifies, diagnoses, and prescribes remediation for problems in the students' creative work.
- Assess and differentiate for the learning needs of students.
- Designs or selects and uses planned sequences of instruction for the development of design ideas and media technique.
- Conducts engaging, well-paced classes using a variety of instructional techniques and materials.
- Assesses, keeps track of, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments.
- Uses a grading system that is consistent, fair, and supportable.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Provides instruction based on designated instructional guides, or develops alternate materials in prescribed district format.
- Develop and maintain classroom environment conducive to effective, engaging and developmentally appropriate learning.
- Develop reasonable roles of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Ensures that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to District, school, and department goals and objectives.
- Follows all District standards, policies, safety protocols and procedures, including those related to COVID-19.
- Selects and requisitions required art equipment and supplies.
- Ensures that art equipment is properly used, maintained, and stored, and that inventory records are accurate and current.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by supervisor.
- Experience teaching art at any level preferred.
- Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum.
- Willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Professional experience in the art industry or related experience.
- The annual certified salary schedule for the 2025-2026 school year is $61,206 - $88,260 for 1.0 FTE for employees with an unrestricted teaching license ($45,905 annual salary for employees with an Emergency/Restricted Teaching License). Baker School District allows all licensed teaching experience years within the U.S. (substitute years not included) and education to be used in placing the teacher on the salary schedule.
- Currently, teacher contracts are approximately 175 days with a four-day work week. Certified staff report for approximately one Friday per month for meetings and PD activities.
