BakerHostetler has an opening in the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group in Columbus, OH, which has a Band 1 ranking in Ohio from Chambers and Partners. This opportunity is for a mid-to-senior level Employee Benefits Associate or Employee Benefits Counsel with extensive experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in all aspects of employee benefits, including experience in providing employee benefits diligence and benefits transition support in mergers and acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities
- Advise on employee benefits matters, including qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, and executive compensation.
- Lead due diligence and transition matters for employee benefits in mergers and acquisitions.
- Assist clients with legal compliance issued under ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, the Affordable Care Act, and other federal and state laws and regulations.
- Draft and negotiate benefits-related agreements and documents, including plan documents, service provider agreements, employee communications, and other materials.
- Collaborate with legal, human resources and finance teams on benefits administration, as well as fiduciary and legal compliance issues.
- Juris Doctor (JD) with active bar membership.
- At least 3 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law
- Strong knowledge of ERISA and related laws.
- Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills.
