Scope/Purpose of the Position
The purpose of this position is to oversee and enhance Food Safety & Quality (FS&Q) programs, policies, and procedures in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, fosters a quality-driven culture, and drives continuous improvement to exceed internal and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Primary Duties:
· Lead the development of a high-performing team of Quality Assurance (QA) technicians through training, goal setting, and performance management.
· Monitor and verify the implementation and effectiveness of Food Safety and Quality systems, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
· Conduct internal audits, manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and facilitate external audits and inspections.
Secondary Duties:
· Oversee daily FS&Q checks, manage product holds, and determine dispositions based on quality analysis.
· Support cross-functional teams, including R&D and production, on special projects and process improvements.
· Oversee the calibration of equipment to ensure accurate and reliable measurements and ensure certifications and related training are completed on time.
Collaboration:
· Partner with production and management teams to implement quality initiatives and resolve issues effectively.
· Serve as the primary liaison with third-party providers for pest control, chemical supplies, and microbiological labs.
Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to GMP standards, FDA regulations, and company SOPs.
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits and certifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly manage a team of QA technicians, fostering professional growth and accountability.

Requirements
Required QualificationsEducation:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, chemistry, microbiology, life sciences, or an equivalent field preferred.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in Quality Assurance within a food manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and quality systems.
Skills:
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of GMPs, SOPs, and regulatory compliance standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications in quality or food safety management (e.g., HACCP, SQF).
- Experience with quality management systems and process improvement methodologies.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or climb (including stairs/ladders).
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Physical dexterity necessary to handle supplies, machine parts and tools.
- Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to the production floor, which may involve loud machinery, fluctuating temperatures, and standing or walking for extended periods.
- Periodic work in an office setting for administrative tasks, meetings, and reporting.
Backup Responsibilities
- The Quality Manager is the back up for this position.
